The Donna and Darnell Pettengill Civic Leadership Academy is an exclusive opportunity for high school juniors to learn from scholars, policymakers, and thought leaders.
Eligible applicants are students completing their junior year in spring 2026 (rising seniors).
Application Deadline: Submit your written essay or video essay by March 27, 2026.
The Academy immerses 28 select students in an intensive and rewarding leadership development experience designed to help them grow as thoughtful, engaged leaders in their schools and communities.
There is no cost to attend. Meals, lodging, and engaging evening activities are included. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Drake University campus in Des Moines, Iowa.
